McDonald’s Gives $10,000 in Free Metro Rides

2,000 Morning Commuters Received Free $5.00 SmarTrip Cards to Celebrate the Start of the MONEY MONOPOLY Game at McDonald’s

WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 29, 2016 – Today, the McDonald’s Family Restaurants of Greater Washington D.C. gave away $10,000 in free Metro rides in a partnership with the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority (WMATA).

During the #RidetheRails event, a total of 2,000 morning commuters at the Farragut West, New Carrollton, Pentagon City, Silver Spring, and Vienna Metro stations received free $5.00 SmarTrip® cards in commemorative sleeves and McDonald’s coupons to celebrate the start of the MONEY MONOPOLY® game at McDonald’s® and the 40th anniversary of WMATA.

“We’re thrilled about the return of the MONEY MONOPOLY game at McDonald’s, and we really wanted to bring the game to life,” said Bryan Cleghorn, president of the McDonald’s Family Restaurants of Greater Washington D.C. “Partnering with WMATA was a natural tie-in that allowed thousands in the Greater Washington area to celebrate the start of the game with us.”

The MONEY MONOPOLY Game at McDonald’s starts today and ends on April 25. This year, customers can win instantly, collect-to-win, enter the Online Sweepstakes, or play using the McDonald’s mobile App. One-in-four players will win, and $50,000 will be given out online each week. With 100 million food and cash prizes, there are more individual cash prizes than any MONOPOLY Game in the past decade.

“With more cash prizes and ways to participate, the game is better and easier to play than ever,” said Cleghorn. “This is our thank you to customers who’ve played the game with us since 1987. We hope to see several big winners right here in the Greater Washington area!”
