CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. – March 8, 2017 – Yenis Blanco, a Prince George’s County McDonald’s Manager, is the first recipient of a high school diploma in the Greater Washington, D.C. area through McDonald’s Archways to Opportunity program.

A graduation celebration with Yenis’ family, colleagues and McDonald’s representatives will be held at the Addison Rd. McDonald’s (1420 Addison Road, South, Capitol Heights, MD 20743) on Wednesday, March 15 at 11 a.m.

“At McDonald’s we are committed to helping our people further their education and achieve their dreams,” said Ron Gantt, local McDonald’s Owner/Operator. “We are incredibly proud of Yenis for enrolling in the Archways to Opportunity program and receiving her high school diploma. We hope her journey is an inspiration to others.”

Archways to Opportunity is a comprehensive educational assistance strategy with multiple programs that give McDonald’s employees opportunities to grow and learn – no matter where they are on their journey or their desired destination.  Since its creation in 2015, more than 13,000 McDonald’s employees across the country have enrolled in one or more of the following options:

  • High School Completion – Allows eligible managers and crew to obtain a high school diploma at no cost.
  • College Access and Completion Includes tuition assistance for college courses and McDonald’s management training curriculum.
  • Advising Services – Help employees identify the best educational and career route to achieve their goals.
  • English Under the Arches – Helps managers and crew improve their English skills.

Yenis has been with the Gantt Organization at the Addison Rd. McDonald’s for five years. As a non-native English speaker, she thought it would be impossible to obtain her high school diploma prior to enrolling in the Archways to Opportunity program.

She is now contemplating the college degree program through Archways to Opportunity to help her achieve her goal of a career in criminal justice.
